With Preferred Equine representing so many breeders, owner David Reid has long been consistent with his policy of not singling out specific horses he’s selling.

“I’m very happy with our depth of yearlings across the board, right from opening night to the end,” Reid said.

Last year, Preferred led all consignors with $8,153,000 in sales for 144 yearlings sold. In 2019, Preferred set a personal record for gross sales with $9,731,000 for 137 yearlings sold.

This year, Preferred is selling 136 yearlings for a wide range of breeders, big and small.

“I’m just extremely proud of our breeders that continue to breed stakes winners in every jurisdiction and at every price range. That’s really my sales pitch for Preferred. We represent a lot of outstanding breeders and they just continue to produce on the racetrack and that’s what we have to sell,” Reid said, adding he’s proud to be selling yearlings from the first crops of stallions Lazarus, Tactical Landing, Stay Hungry and International Moni. Reid is a part-owner of International Moni. He’s also the syndicate manager for Walner, who is having an outstanding year at the races in 2021 with his first crop.

“Selfishly speaking, as syndicate manager for Walner, I’m over the moon at the success that the horse has had with his first crop,” Reid said. “Preferred has a nice offering of Walners, as does the sale. I think he’s done something as a first-crop sire that we haven’t seen done in a long time. I’m not going to make a comparison, but he’s done a phenomenal job and seems like he picks the mares up. I’m really excited to sell our group of Walners this year.”
