Introducing … Tales from The Curmudgeon

HRU is proud to add Hall of Famer Murray Brown to its stable of columnists.

by Murray Brown

I am honored to have been asked to write a periodic column for Harness Racing Update’s Wednesday edition.

I envision the column as a combination of my thoughts and experiences related mostly to my 60+ years in harness racing with an emphasis on the sport’s history, breeding, marketing, the people and horses that I have been privileged to have known and any other topics relating to the sport.

I would very much like you, the readers, to be a very important part of this experience.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts, including suggesting topics and asking questions. I may not have the answers to all of you questions and comments, but I will promise that at the very least, they will all be acknowledged. The hope is to answer one question in every column, but we’ll see how it goes. The questions or comments need not necessarily be totally related to our great sport or even remotely so.

I’m one of the lucky guys.

I’ve led a long and mostly happy and healthy life, both in and out of harness racing.

In addition to my being consumed by the sport to which I’ve devoted most of my adult life, I’ve also been fortunate enough to have been blessed with numerous interests in areas where harness racing was not necessarily a part, but to which I was often led because of my love of the sport.

Those who know me, know that I also enjoy most other sports and have an almost maniacal interest in the fortunes of the Duke Blue Devils basketball team, in particular, and college basketball in general.

My other serious interests include travel, restaurants, wine, food in general and a periodic interest in politics and general life.

If any of these topics strike your fancy and you would like me to discuss them or others, please do not hesitate to contact me.

As my friends know I am rarely hesitant to share my views and opinions.

Contact me at my email address [email protected] or through editor Dave Briggs at [email protected].

I look forward to hearing from you.
