Preferred is loaded with talent and variety as it guns to be top grossing consignor for 11th time in last 12 years

In 2022, Preferred Equine Marketing smashed the all-time Lexington Selected Yearling Sale consignor record for gross with more than $11.2 million in sales. Last year, Preferred came just a sliver away from being the sale’s leading consignor for the 11th straight year. Hunterton edged Preferred by a mere $93,000 to claim the title for the first time since 2012.
Preferred’s David Reid said he was feeling optimistic about his consignment this year, which features 169 yearlings from nearly 40 clients.
“I think we have a very good mix of individuals this year,” Reid said. “We’re super proud to represent all of the breeders that we represent. There’s multiple jurisdictions with a lot of sire power, which I’m happy about.
“On the trotting side, we have a lot of Muscle Hills, Walners, Chapter Sevens, Gimpanzees. We’ve got the first-crop of Captain Coreys, plus Greenshoes, International Monis. We have a strong representation on the trotters and then we’ll finish up on the last night with Ready For Monis, which I’m excited to sell. We’re very deep in trotters, fillies and colts and I’m very happy to represent them.
“Pacing-wise, we have a broad selection, including Captains, Bulldogs, Papi Rob Hanovers, Always B Mikis. We have first-crop Perfect Stings.”
Reid, who is always reluctant to single out many yearlings from his consignment due to representing so many breeders, was coaxed to mention one. He stressed he is extremely proud to sell every one of the yearlings in his consignment, but was especially happy to be selling Hip #14 Treacherous, the full-brother to last year’s top-selling pacer, Treacheryinthedark, which sold for $700,000 to Andrew Harris and partners out of the Preferred consignment.
Reid also mentioned he is proud to have sold 2024 Hambletonian Oaks winner Warrawee Michelle at the 2022 Lexington sale for Ontario’s Warrawee Farms.
“In addition we’ve sold several other stakes winners across all gaits,” Reid said. “We strive to sell stakes winners year after year.”
Preferred will start showing yearlings on Saturday (Sept. 28) at 1 p.m. and then go strong all the way until the end of the sale on Friday (Oct. 4).
