RE: Natasha Day winning the Ontario Women’s Driving Championship

I have an old announcement that you may be unaware of. My mother, Ruth G. Eyler, aka Mrs. Joseph H. Eyler, of the Eyler Stables, Thurmont, MD, was the first woman driver to win with trotting mare Breeze Up against six pacers at Rosecroft Raceway, Oxon Hill, MD in 1950. She almost made 100 victories with this mare before she was put into breeding. (The U.S.) Trotting Association has these facts.

It’s great today to hear more women are doing the driving and can excel knowing the correct tools to have to compete. Mother was the best of the best and my father was jealous that she had such success that he only allowed her drive at fairs. He was successful in that he finished first over 1,500 times in his career. Thought this might interest you and your readers. Thank you.

Gene Eyler
