Spring Station Bloodstock dispersal offers over 50 mares in foal
by James Platz
Spring Station Bloodstock debuted as a consignor at Lexington in 2023, offering 12 yearlings. Later this week, 57 broodmares from the Midway, KY farm will be sold at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Complex as round one of a total dispersal, with the operation winding down. The group is consigned under the banner of Alliance Bloodstock.
“They are young and productive mares because we are still in our infancy here,” Spring Station’s Sasha Moczulski said of the dispersal. “Buyers have a great opportunity here.”
Of the 57 mares that are set to sell, 52 are in foal, and four will be sold with recipient mares. Mon Cheval is one mare that will sell open. Her Chapter Seven filly Ma Cherie Station recently brought $475,000 at Lexington.
“We are carrying over the remaining open mares until next year,” Moczulski said of the 10 broodmares not in foal this season. “We will get them in foal and then they will sell at Harrisburg next year.”
Two-thirds of the dispersal are pacing mares, and the offerings consist of a combination of mothers that were campaigned by Moczulski’s partner, Josh Green, or were acquired by Green and farm owner Eric Good after the completion of their racing careers.
“While this is extremely heartbreaking, I’m truly proud of what we have built here, and a lot of these are great mares to buy,” Moczulski said.
One example is Hip #1094 Dandy’s Sweetness, a Sweet Lou mare selling in foal to Downbytheseaside. She is a sister to recent Breeders Crown winner Dandy Ideal, and her first foal, freshman Dapper Station, is a three-time winner with a 1:52.2 mark. Moczulski worked with the mare both on the track and on the farm.
“Josh and I picked her out with Eric at the Lexington sale,” she said. “I was the first one to put a harness on her, and took care of her the whole time. So that’s another really cool thing. We picked her out, broke her, and were the first ones to have her on the track. Then we were able to bring her back to Kentucky and breed her. That’s a really cool experience.”
Hip #1121 Pass And Stow, a Betting Line sister to Dandy Ideal, is another selling from the dispersal. She was purchased at Harrisburg last year, and returns to the sale ring in foal to Downbytheseaside.
Joining Dandy’s Sweetness and Pass And Stow as a highlight of the dispersal is Southwind Spring, Hip #1137. The Well Said mare is a sister to millionaire Southwind Ozzi, and has produced two winners to date. She sells open.
“She’s a gorgeous mare, I mean beautiful,” Moczulski said. “When you see her, she has such a presence to her.”
Hip #1083 Amazing Alexa, bred to Captaintreacherous, is a Well Said sister to O’Brien Award winner Nijinsky. She has already produced seven-time winner Atte Station, clocked in 1:49.3 this season. Her latest offering, Sweet Lou colt Allure Station, brought $95,000 at Lexington.
“She’s just the cutest mare you have ever seen, but do not let her cuteness fool you,” said Moczulski. “She’s tough as nails. She chases coyotes out of the field. She’s a wonderful mother.”
Duchess Hill, Hip #1096, is a full-sister to double millionaire and Dan Patch Award winner Abuckabett Hanover. She was bred this season to Papi Rob Hanover. Six-figure-earning Dance Ticket, Hip #1093, is a half-sister to two-time Dan Patch Award winner Miki And Minnie, and is in foal to Louprint.
Among the trotting mares in the dispersal, Explosionbroline S, Hip 1098, is a young Donato Hanover sister to the prolific producer Jolene Jolene, dam of Venerable, Voguish, and Crucial, and grandam of Breeders Crown champion Maryland. She sells in foal to Captain Corey.
Moczulski has strong connections to each of the mares in the dispersal, and wants to make sure the transition to new homes goes smoothly for each. She will be on hand at Harrisburg and available to talk about each with prospective buyers.
“Originally I had thought this would be too tough for me to watch, and I still think it probably will be,” she said. “I love these mares and I want them to go to the best homes possible, so I’m more than happy to facilitate along the way with any questions someone might have.”
