Development plans for Mohawk?

(RE:Should Woodbine development plan be a blueprint for other tracks?)

I’d like to see [WEG’s] development plans for Mohawk. Possibly, it would fit on the back of a postage stamp. I would love to be wrong on my assumption.

Fifty years of memories at The Meadowlands

I first stepped foot on the property as a senior in high school. It was a cold January night. The area had a recent snowstorm. The grandstand apron was strewn with ‘snowbergs.’ The apron was the place to be.

I had never been to a horse racing facility before. I was hooked.

I followed the horsemen and learned their names: Remmen (Larry and Ray), Ted Wing, Jim Doherty, Ben Webster, Cat Manzi, the rivalry for top driver honors between John Campbell and Bill O’Donnell.

We were also fans of certain horses over the years: Tarport Hap, Oil Burner, Rambling Willie. April’s Skipper, Genghis Kahn, so many to mention.

Then there was the European invasion from which we were treated to the best trotters in the world.

We fans were treated to the best in standardbred racing.

I attended every Meadowlands Pace from 1978 thru 1989. That 1978 edition was memorable as it was contested in an absolute deluge that started just as the starting gate car began to gather the field.

I attended every Hambletonian Day through the 1980s.

Afternoon racing at The Big M was special.

Correction on Tales from The Curmudgeon

After readingthis articleI would like to say there is one thing that is mentioned over and over that is false information: “Deo Volente is the only full-service breeding farm left in New Jersey.”

There are two other full-service breeding farms that are much bigger than Deo Volente.

Walnridge Farm is truly full service as they have four vets on staff and are the only farm in New Jersey fully USDA permitted to freeze stallion semen. They stand several stallions as well, and collect transient stallions that race and breed.

Sunset Ridge is also a full-service breeding facility that have over 200 acres, two breeding sheds, and stands stallions.

I would ask that you please correct this in the next HRU?
