Readers weigh in on Beau Jangles

RE: Brett Sturman’s most recent Between the Lines column

I wholeheartedly agree that Beau Jangles should receive every award and accolade there is for him. You mentioned in the story “there’s been no one else perfect this year.” I would like to point out that here in the Maritimes there is a filly, Windemere Skye, that went 12-for-12 and in so doing won $124,975. She took her record of 1:53.3 over Red Shores at Charlottetown, a half-mile track.

I always enjoy your column, Brett. keep up the great work.

More thoughts on Beau

Upon reading the article on Beau Jangles written by Brett Sturman, I agree with most of the points he presented. Beau Jangles was definitely the best 2-year-old pacer of the year. He defeated the best 2-year-old pacers that raced in the USA. His Breeders Crown victory was a show of both power and speed.

However, there’s a reason why the term “home field advantage” has significance. Most of the horses from the USA have raced on several different tracks, which involves hours of shipping. Some have even shipped to Woodbine Mohawk [Park] more than once. All of this shipping has exposed them to more viruses and bacteria that can potentially cause sickness as well as shipping fever.

Meanwhile, Beau Jangles has enjoyed the comforts of his own home sleeping in his own bed [stall], eating his own grain, drinking the water he is accustomed to drinking, jogging on the same track in the same surroundings.

Your article mentioned Stockade Steelster and his memorable 2-year-old season. If my memory serves me correctly, after he started shipping to other tracks he wasn’t as dominant as his 2-year-old season. Maybe the other 2-year-olds caught up to him at 3 or maybe the fact that he came to them played a difference. I don’t know.

As I previously stated, Beau Jangles has proven he was the best 2-year-old pacer and is well deserving of being named the Dan Patch 2-Year-Old Pacer of the Year, however with Lexus Kody performing like he did this year shipping all across two countries winning multiple times in [1:49] and change and also winning the International Trot at an extended distance, I don’t believe there’s a resume that can compare to the accomplishments he achieved this year.
