Elitloppet champ Go On Boy outstanding at Enghien

by Thomas Hedlund

Romain Derieux’s super trotter Go On Boy (Password) had anything but an easy trip in Saturday’s (July 12) $130,000 Prix de Washington at Enghien in Paris. The 2025 winner of Elitloppet had to settle three wide during the first kilometer of the mile race, before he landed outside of leader Hohneck. Hohneck kept the pace up in front, still looking strong as the field turned into the long homestretch at Enghien.

But Go On Boy showed why he’s considered one of the absolute best older trotters in the world at this moment. Derieux did everything right in the bike behind his Go On Boy. When Hohneck fought well in front, Derieux just let Go On Boy continue to roll beside the leader, until he felt that Hohneck would be easy prey in mid-stretch.

Go On Boy danced to the superior win in 1:50.2 as his 2025 continues to be great as he was third in the Prix d’Amerique, and the winner in the Prix de France, Elitloppet and Prix de Washington.

Hohneck finished second ahead of Elvis du Vallon. And speaking of Hohneck. Philippe Allaire’s horse is the first trotter invited to $1 million Yonkers International Trot on Sept. 13. That might be Hohneck’s last performance as a racing horse. Though, there are options to continuing racing in America after the race at Yonkers, for example the Breeders Crown in Canada during the fall.

GIO CASH AND DON FANUCCI ZET HAVE EXCITING DUEL IN ÅRJÄNG

Gio Cash and Don Fanucci Zet were both at their best in the Norrbottens Stora Pris in the middle of June. Gio Cash was the winning horse that night, with the highest of grades for both trotters’ efforts.

In Saturday’s (July 12) $100,000 Årjängs Stora Sprinterlopp, Gio Cash had the best post again, just like in Boden and as the raced turned out, the post position had a very significant role in the outcome.

Gio Cash (Victor Gio) and Decision Maker battled hard for the lead and Daniel Wäjersten’s Gio Cash kept the challenger on his outside throughout the first turn, which meant that he would be able to control the race in front. Don Fanucci Zet started from post 8 and Örjan Kihlström showed that he had no interest in taking it slow the first quarter, so Don Fanucci Zet landed outside of leader Gio Cash after 500 meters.

Gio Cash and Don Fanucci Zet fought side by side down the backstretch, throughout the last turn and in the homestretch, but the leader held his neck ahead of the brave outside trotter as they reached the finish line in a track record 1:50.1.

Gio Cash finished ahead of Don Fanucci Zet, just like in Boden. Wherever the two horses will meet next time, spectacular racing is guaranteed.

Decision Maker took the bronze medal.
