Trio of pacing colts headline Twinbrook Farms consignment

Twinbrook Farms, home of the “Twin B” horses, will offer a 30-horse consignment at this year’s Standardbred Horse Sales Company yearling auction, slated for Nov. 6-10 in Harrisburg, PA. Owned by Rob and Tammy McNiven, the Embro, ON farm’s roster features a dozen homebreds and 18 agent yearlings. Their daughter, Jenna, discussed how the consignment is different from previous offerings.
“We only have 12 of our own in the sale,” Jenna said. “That’s down a little bit. We’ve had a few injuries along the way. We might be a little bit down for ourselves, but I think the individuals we have are very nice, so they should hopefully make up for those that did not make it there.”
The consignment is anchored by a trio of pacing colts, all selling on Monday (Nov. 6) at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex.
“I call them the three glamour boys because you walk in the barn and they are three in a row all lined up, very, very nice colts,” Jenna said.
Selling as the next-to-last horse in the session, Hip #155 Twin B Euchre is a Bettor’s Delight brother to one of the top 3-year-old fillies in harness racing.
“We have a full-brother in blood to Twin B Joe Fresh,” Jenna said. “He’s pretty nice. He’s a big, strong Bettor’s Delight colt. Joe Fresh had another great year, so we’re pretty high on [Twin B Euchre].”
Early on Monday, Twinbrook will sell Hip #13 Twin B Courageous, a colt from the first crop of Papi Rob Hanover out of Dragon Again mare In The Pink.
“The mare has had two previous colts, and both of them [Twin B Tuffenuff and Twin B Fighter] have raced in the Metro Pace final,” she said. “We think he is her nicest foal.”
Rounding out the trio is Hip #45 Twin B Top Gun. From the first crop of Tall Dark Stranger, the colt is the second foal from Western Ideal mare Paisley Hanover.
“His dam is a sister to the dam of Papi Rob Hanover,” she said. “He is, again, very nice.”
Another highlight in the roster is Hip #425 Twin B Bodacious, which sells Tuesday. The Bettor’s Delight yearling, second foal of Dragon Again mare Beautiful Liz, has the great Worldly Beauty in her pedigree.
“She’s pretty nice,” Jenna said. “I think she is everything you would expect in a Bettor’s Delight filly. She’s the perfect size for a Bettor’s Delight; she’s not too small, but she’s not a big filly. She’s pretty correct and her video is awesome. We think she is a pretty nice little filly.”
Hip #444 Twin B Brigade is a Pennsylvania and Kentucky eligible first foal from Captaintreacherous mare Twin B Captivating. Jenna said the Sweet Lou colt may not get the attention he merits due to the second dam’s production record.
“Obviously, Sweet Lou is going to get attention this year because he had such a great year,” she said. “But the dam side is not as strong. He is a super nice individual himself.”
Hip #102 Twin B Monilicious, selling Monday, is Jenna’s favorite horse in the barn due to the filly’s personality. The International Moni yearling is a half-sister to O’Brien Award winner Twin B Archie.
“I feel like she’ll get attention,” she said.
Twinbrook’s agent offerings include a wide range of sires, with pacing colts by American Ideal, Bettor’s Delight, Lazarus and Shadow Play and fillies sired by Sweet Lou, Bettor’s Delight, Well Said, Roll With Joe and Bettor’s Wish. Among the trotters are colts by Andover Hall, Muscle Mass and Six Pack along with fillies by Tactical Landing and International Moni.
Jenna has gradually taken the reins of the family business, and is now instrumental in multiple aspects of bringing the babies along before they head to auction.
“My dad still helps with outside stuff and tractor work and helping feed, but the whole feeding program, exercise routine and grooming, I take care of all of that with the yearlings,” she said. “Yearling prep is my favorite time of the year. I could prep yearlings year-round, I love it.”
