Foals spanning generations in the same family arrived at Diamond Creek Farm in Pennsylvania recently when Western Montana delivered a Downbytheseaside filly (bottom) and Western Montana’s older daughter Pure Country delivered a Sweet Lou filly (right). Western Montana, a daughter of Western Hanover out of Incredible Margie, earned more than $175,000 on the track, but she has really excelled as a broodmare. The 100 per cent producer has delivered such stars as Pure Country (1:48.2, $2,438,619) and Grand Teton (h, 1:48.1, $518,232). The Downbytheseaside filly, named Calamity, is Western Montana’s 10th foal. Calamity arrived on April 13. As for the Sweet Lou filly, named Charlatan, she is the first foal out of Pure Country, a three-time Dan Patch Award winner. Charlatan arrived on April 4.
