Lizzi: A shot was fired during Roosevelt riot

In the Nov. 24 edition of HRU, Jay Wolf questioned whether a record score triggered adeadly riot at Roosevelt Raceway. Wolf wrote “Nearly 150 police officers were called to the track. Service revolvers and tear gas guns were drawn, but no shots were fired.”

Yonkers track photographer and Roosevelt historian Mike Lizzi reached out to HRU to disagree. He sent us archival footage of the riot. Lizzi pointed out that in the footage, “a shot was fired into the ground at the 11:50 mark.”
