Captain Corey-sired half-brother to Horse of the Year Hannelore Hanover arrives at Hanover

by Gunjan Patel

This handsome colt was foaled March 11 at Hanover Shoe Farms. He is sired by 2021 Hambletonian winner Captain Corey (T, 2, 1:53.3f; 3, 1:51f $1,090,333), out of Hanover broodmare, High Sobriety, making him a half-brother to 2017 Dan Patch and O’Brien Horse of the Year and 2023 Hall of Fame inductee, Hannelore Hanover (T, 5, 1:49.2m $3,069,857).

Two of High Sobriety’s daughters are also Hanover broodmares. Hannelore Hanover is expecting an eagerly-anticipated Walner foal very soon. Four-year-old Hanna Too Hanover (T, 3, 1:55.2s) was purchased at the 2023 Harrisburg Mixed Sale by president and CEO of Hanover Shoe Farms, Russell Williams, for $150,000 and is currently in foal to Chapter Seven for 2025.

Captain Corey’s first crop of yearlings sell at auction this fall. “They are sharp looking individuals,” said Hanover Shoe Farms’ farm manager, Patti Murphy. “You can tell they are Coreys when you see them. They are smart, cooperative, and have great bodies overall. He gives them substance, good bone, and the majority stand correct.”
