Vivid Wise As wins Gran Premio Delle Nazioni in Milan

by Thomas Hedlund

Alessandro Gocciadoro-trained Vivid Wise As (Yankee Glide) continues to score in big European races for the older elite. On Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon, Matthieu Abrivard drove the 8-year-old Italian-bred trotter to victory in the $220,000 Gran Premio Delle Nazioni in Milan.

Vivid Wise As was served a perfect pocket trip by Abrivard and when the duo left the back of stablemate Vernissage Grif, the leader was defenseless.

Vivid Wise As captured the second title in the race in a mile rate of 1:56.2 over 1.4 miles.

And harness racing in Italy continues with the $300,000 Orsi Mangelli 3-year-old race in Turin on Tuesday (Nov. 1).

Twenty horses in two elimination heats chase glory but the Italian Derby winner Dimitri Ferm is missing in the entries list. Five horses from each elimination will enter the final the same day.

B-RACES SCHEDULED

The four preparing B races ahead of 2023 year’s edition of Prix d’Amérique are scheduled at Vincennes’ race cards this autumn and winter.

Paris’ winter meeting starts in November and on the 20th, the $120,000 Prix de Bretagne paves the way towards Prix d’Amérique 2023.

As usual, it’s the top three horses in each B-race that qualify for the big race in the end of January next year and the $120,000 Prix du Bourbonnais follows on Dec. 11.

December 24 is the day when 4- and 5-year-old trotters get their chances to reach the Prix d’Amérique. The $200,000 Criterium Continental for 4-year-olds and $200,000 Prix Tenor de Baune for 5-year-olds are both scheduled at Christmas and on New Year’s Day (Dec. 1), $120,000 Prix de Bourgogne will be held.

Two weeks before the $1,000,000 Prix d’Amérique, on Jan. 15, it’s the last qualifying race when the $120,000 Prix de Belgique is on Vincennes’ race card.

January 29 is the date for Prix d’Amérique.
