Rare chance to get a yearling from Diamond Creek’s foundation mare Western Montana

by Dave Briggs

Shaun Laungani said the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale will mark a rare opportunity to get a horse from one of Diamond Creek’s most prolific foundation families.

The farm’s vice-president and director of bloodstock services said Hip 218 Arson, a Captaintreacherous colt, is the first foal out of Western Montana that Diamond Creek has offered for sale.

“We’ve kept everything to this point, so it’s exciting for everybody to see him,” Laungani said. “Western Montana has been our foundation mare, ever since (Diamond Creek owner) Adam (Bowden) got in the business. They bought her as a yearling early on. She’s produced Pure Country, among others including Grand Teton and Territory. Now, we’re got the situation where she has a filly Charleston, that Brett Pelling trains. So, here we come with a Captaintreacherous colt out of her.”

Another yearling from one of Diamond Creek’s foundation families is Hip 108 Angel, “a Muscle Hill filly out of Swan Hot Mama. This is the Muscle Hill half-sister to Exile, who topped the sale last year for $800,000. So, here we come with another filly.”

Diamond Creek will sell 43 yearlings in Lexington — 18 of their own and 25 as an agent. Laungani said he was also excited to sell some from Captain Crunch’s first crop. Captain Crunch stands at Diamond Creek’s Pennsylvania farm.

“We’re selling some very nice individuals. The top individual that we’re so excited to highlight of his first crop is Hip 227 (Blood Bond), out of 100 per cent producing Blood Diamond. Superstar mare. Pedigree. Physical. Video – it’s all there. So, super excited about him.”

Laungani said he is also excited to see progeny of Diamond Creek stallion Father Patrick have a strong year at the races.

“We are excited about the rebound with Father Patrick being the top sire of 2-year-olds this year. This is his best-bred crop of yearlings in the sale. We expect that they are going to do very, very well. We have a fabulous filly, Hip 30 (Antarctic). This is a foal out of a mare named Piranha Fury that’s an A-plus physical.”

As an agent, Diamond Creek is selling three colts by its stallion Downbytheseaside, who stands at Sugar Valley Farm in Ohio.

“Downbytheseaside is just doing amazing things, despite the Gural Rule, winning the Jug and The Adios and the North America Cup,” Laungani said.

During the Friday night Oct. 7 session featuring mostly midwestern horses, Diamond Creek is selling the following sons of Downbytheseaside:

Hip 903 Nocryinintheuber

Hip 817 Seaside Delight

Hip 869 Twenty Five

Diamond Creek is also selling three fillies born and raised in Italy at Scuderia Sant’Andrea:

Hip 456 Fobia IT (Father Patrick—Gasoline)

Hip 535 Fenicia IT (Face Time Bourbon—Mania)

Hip 601 Freedonia IT (Greenshoe—Grand Idea)

Diamond Creek is also inviting visitors to the brand new stallion barn at its Georgetown, KY farm every day from Oct. 3-6 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. for its Champions and Champagne event showcasing its champion trotting stallions Gimpanzee, Father Patrick, Creatine, Southwind Frank and Marseille.
