Party table set at Axevalla

by Thomas Hedlund

Axevalla racetrack in Sweden plays host to a three-day party starting today (July 22) culminating on Sunday (July 24) with the $465,000 Stochampionatet for 4-year-old trotting mares.

Twelve mares qualified for the final one week ago and the race is quite tough since the distance in both the eliminations and final is 2,640 meters (over 1.6 miles).

Offspring by Muscle Hill, Ready Cash and S.J.’s Caviar dominate the final, even if the most merited trotter ahead of the race is Djali Boko mare Lara Boko, trained by Timo Nurmos and driven by Mika Forss. Lara Boko claimed the Oaks at Solvalla in September and was the heavy favorite in her elimination last week. But she had to capitulate from the lead when upset winner Global Collection (Brillantissime) showed great speed over the stretch.

The $465,000 Stochampionatet is unusually open this year and basically all 12 contenders can win the prestigious race.

STAR QUALITY FIELD IN HUGO ÅBERGS MEMORIAL

Jägersro racetrack in southern Sweden arrange its super summer day on Tuesday (July 26) and the $310,000 Hugo Åbergs Memorial mile race for the older elite is the race that the fans will be waiting for.

Ten trotters from Europe will chase the first prize of 1,609,000 Swedish crowns and some really quick opening horses had great luck when the draw was made on Tuesday (July 19) night.

Don Fanucci Zet from post 1, Click Bait from post 2 and Önas Prince from number 3 will most probably make this year’s edition of Hugo Åbergs Memorial a high-speed story.
