Responding to Dr. Marino

I am compelled to respond to Dr. Marino’s comments regarding the use of Lasix (full story here). He states in favor of race day Lasix that “at the end of that (Lasix) syringe is a licensed veterinarian who has taken an oath.” I don’t think I have to remind Dr. Marino that at the end of the syringes that not long ago were used to pump up horses with anabolic steroids and other syringes that were used to inject joints with corticosteroids a day or two before a race, stood a licensed veterinarian. Racing has managed to rein in the use of those drugs, as well as other drugs, and it needs to do the same with Lasix.
