After a week of rain, youngsters finally get a beautiful day at Sunshine Meadows

by Ron Gurfein

Truly amazing, but after seven days straight of rain, the gods were with us Saturday and we had a beautiful day at Sunshine Meadows. According to Tony Alagna’s mom, Ms. Donna Lee, you should allow two seconds for an off track. There was plenty of action but knowledge of the road conditions after all that rain kept the turn out on The Deck to a smaller group than normal. Sam Bowie, and his buddy Terry Miller, made a surprise appearance.

Lindy Farm and Fred Grant were among the missing in the training department, however I did get the opportunity to see Prefect Hanover, the Father Patrick colt out of the great mare Passionate Glide for the first time on the track since he had an OCD removed and was quite pleased with the easy way he got over the ground.

Out early was a beautiful 3-year-old filly The Wonderous Wendy by Western Ideal from Lush Limbaugh with Megan Scran. The Alagna brigade of 3-year-olds were also in the early action all going solo and looking fine, were my favorite from last years winter sessions Captain Ahab ,c, (Captaintreacherous—Aquavella) who in my humble opinion could have a 3-year-old season to rival that of his dad’s, along with Escapetothebeach, g (Somebeachsomewhere—Shelliscape) Waterway c (Captaintreacherous—Capri Hanover) and Treacherous Reign f (Captaintreacherous—Scandalous Hanover.

Lee,m a very accomplished equestrian in her own right, trained a trio of exceptional pupils, Riviera Seelster f (Sunshine Beach—Rockapulco), Cliff Hanger g (Vintage Master—Mystery Game) and Princess Layla f (Sportswriter—Jann’s Bid).

From the Zeron Stable, Miss Willa caught my eye looking the best of her set, the Andover Hall daughter of Miss Athens is a sister to my good filly Dover Miss, she bested Sixteen c (Donato Hanover—Mets Inn) and Tennessee Rain g (Father Patrick—Rustic Rosie). Cathedral Belle f (Father Patrick—Lady Athens), Madam Justice f (EL Titan—Lady I Am) and Enid Hanover f (Muscle Hill—Emylou Who) were all nailed on the wire by the last to first move of Val Halla f (Chapter Seven—Yankee Naila) also from team Zeron.

From Webster/Crogan came a nice set including, Sassy Michele f (Roll With Joe—Michelle’s Ideal), Standafer Hanover f (Captaintreacherous—So Perfect), Middleton f (Somebeachsomewhere—Jolting Kate), and Recoil f (Rockin Image—Shot To Go Blue Chip). Also, they trained Booty Call f (Somebeachsomewhere—Love Canal) and Pick Me Upper c (Trixton—Pick Me Up) both caught at the finish by Sweet Beachtime f (Somebeachsomewhere—Sweet Paprika).

Another nice set from Zeron was: Burberry c (Father Patrick—High Heels Kadabra), Ripley Muscles f (Muscle Mass—Fin de Maye) and Fortune Tellin Lindy f (Trixton—For A Dancer) who won easily under wraps.
US Captain looked strong for Matt Krueger (Alagna Stable). Hopefully, he will have a good 3-year-old campaign, the Captaintreacherous colt is out of the great Brittany mare American Jewel.

Paul Kelley had a nice group, Amos Hart c (Trixton—Zeta Jones) one of my favorites, Mambo f (Yankee Glide—Dance To Market) and Flying Glider f (Cantab Hall—Highland Glider) all looked good Saturday morning.

Believe it or not the Wizard (Pacey Mindlin) has a very nice Rockin Image colt, Leon David, out of the good mare Native Dream in the Peter Wrenn stable. Peter also trained a good looking Always A Virgin filly this morning out of Sand Pleasure her name is O She’s Magic.

More from Webster/Crogan: Odds On Daytona c (American Ideal—Odds On Monet), Das Deo c (Captaintreacherous—Lis June) and Baydis c (Artspeak—Quick Babe) looked great.

From the Alagna barn, He Refuses To Lose c (Captaintreacherous—Fox Valley Zena) beat Speak The Peace f (Artspeak—KeepThe Peace) in a sharp 2:42 and Sea Of Life c (Captaintreacherous—Fresh Idea) beat a beautiful trotting lass Confidante (Father Patrick—Anywhere With You).

Due to the late start and the wet track I was forced to go home to let my dogs out and I want to thank Steve Wienick for texting me the results of the last few Alagna sets.

It’s ShowTime c (Captaintreacherous—Ufizzi Hanover) came from last to first to best Ideal Perception c (American Ideal—Southwind Siren) and Chief Mate c (Captaintreacherous—Heaven Forbid). Karmas Delight f (Captaintreacherous—Darlins Delight) bested Treacherous Lady f (Captaintreacherous—Weapons Against) and Odds On Orlando f (Captaintreacherous—Lindys Old Lady).
Captain Barbosa c (Captaintreacherous—Swinging Beauty) defeated Captain Video c (Captaintreacherous—Eitherurinorout) and Major Risky c (Captaintreacherous—Flyonce).

Everyone asks about the Zeron story, but there is nothing newsworthy to write about. Thanks for all the great mail. Please keep the questions coming to Ask The Guru and have a wonderful week.
